Club Go at Whipple Heights

The kids at rice "African style" aka with their hands. It was a lot of fun!

Two volunteers modeled Guniean fashion. This tied in well with the message we talked about: "wear love" from Colossians 3:14

Sunday at Whipple Heights:

This Sunday I had the opportunity to teach "Club Go" (kids church grade K-6) at Whipple Heights in Canton. The kids had a great time learning about West Africa, eating rice, trying on panyas, and singing a worship song in a tribal language. After the lesson, they prayed for me and my upcoming trip. I think the prayer went something like, "keep Christine safe and don't let her get bit by any snakes." :)

While they were great sports and had a lot of questions, I think I got a lot more out of the time than the kids did. I felt stronger after teaching about West Africa and why I'm going back again; God used the time to speak to my life and give my heart peace about what the next few months will bring. Sometimes I feel inadequate as a "minister" of Jesus to others, but when I read and teach God's word I am more and more convinced that God's children are alive for the purpose of radically loving the world.

I was reading in Genesis 12 today, and I was struck by the following verses:

"I will make you into a great nation
and I will bless you:
I will make your name great and you will be a blessing
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all the peoples on earth
will be blessed through you."

Genesis 12:2&3

I'm amazed that God called Israel to be a holy nation in order to bless the world. But before saying the world will be blessed through Abraham, Sarah, and their descendants, God says "I will make you." He is making them into something-- a holy nation, a kingdom of priests, a blessing to the world.

Just like God called Israel, he calls his chruch to be a blessing to the world. But he has to keep shaping her-- he has to keep making her into something that will bless.

I'm praying that God will keep making and shaping me so that I can show his love to the world.

Will you join me?

Hi everyone!

This is the blog site I will be using to chronicle my spring semester overseas. Please use this as a tool to keep up with what I'm doing. I'm excited about the journey ahead, and can't wait to see what the Lord has in store.
